Supplemental Education Services Toolkit

Supplemental Educational Services is extra help in academic subjects, such as reading, mathematics, and language arts. These services are free of charge to eligible students and are provided outside of the regular school day – before or after school, weekends, or in the summer.
Students who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, who are performing below proficiency, and who are enrolled in Title I schools in the second level of school improvement are eligible to receive free supplemental services.
Here are some tools you can use to help promote Supplemental Educational Services to the parents at your school.

    • A Power point presentation about SES, this is set up as a continuous loop – so set up during your open house or registration time!
    • Flyer about SES for teachers.  Teachers can provide information about SES to parents of students with the greatest needs.  Post the flyer in your break room or put into staff mailboxes.
    • Flyer about SES for parents.  Post or mail to parents to help them know about SES and the tutoring services they can receive for their child.
    • A postcard that can be mailed to families of students eligible for SES.
    • A postcard that families can mail to YOU at the school requesting additional information.

Check out the SD Dept of Education website for more information or to see a list of approved providers for your school.
