Report Cards

What kind of information can I expect?

Parents have traditionally received information specific to how their children are doing in school through parent-teacher conferences, report cards, daily school work, and results of standardized tests. This information helps parents to know the areas in which their children are doing well and in what areas they may need additional help.

No Child Left Behind requires that parents also receive information about the performance of their children’s school, the school district, and the state as a whole. Report cards for the school, the district, and the state will provide information to parents and the public on student performance and achievement, graduation rates, teacher qualifications, and the number of students tested.

Report cards will also identify schools “in improvement status”. Parents of students in these schools will receive additional information about their school and options for students attending that school.

Find out how your school is doing…..

1 Go to the SD Depart of Education website www.doe.sd.gov

2

On the left side find a box titled Quick Links and click on Report Cards
3 The Report Cards are available beginning with the 2003 school year.  Select the year you are most interested in (most people are typically interested in the most recent information)
4 After you have selected the year – the next page that appears has an alphabetic listing of all of the school districts in SD. Find your district and click on it.
5 Across the top there are 4 tabs – Assessment Results; Attendance/Graduation Rates; District Status; Highly Qualified Teachers. For specific information about the whole district just click on the tabs to the side to find out district-wide information. The names of each school in your district appear beneath the district name on the left side. (usually elementary, middle, high school). For information on a specific school, click on the school and then use the tabs across to find out the information you are seeking.
