Supplemental Educational Services

Supplemental Educational Services is extra help in academic subjects, such as reading, mathematics, and language arts. These services are free of charge to eligible students and are provided outside of the regular school day – before or after school, weekends, or in the summer.

Students who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, who are performing below proficiency, and who are enrolled in Title I schools in the second level of school improvement are eligible to receive free supplemental services.

Your school district will notify you if your child is eligible for supplemental educational services and also provide you with a list of approved providers. If you think your child might be eligible, check with your school principal or the Title I coordinator in your district.

Your school district will give you a list of state approved service providers and you need to choose from this list. There are several different types of providers available (from an individual tutor to computer-based instruction). If asked, your school can assist you in choosing the best provider for your child.

Your school will contract with the provider for services. You, the provider, and the school staff should meet to discuss and agree on specific goals for your child, set up a schedule for services, and talk about how progress will be measured.
